a sample of Colin's Poetry:

Reminding myself

I have to keep reminding myself…..
I am not as great as my dog thinks I am
He sees me leave each day with just a set of keys
When I return with all that food
His eyes widen
And bounds up wagging his tail
Then I unfurl it all

His eyes widen even further in complete admiration
He’s thinking I am the greatest hunter he has ever seen
I am not as great as my dog thinks I am

Sometimes my dog hears that tinkle, becomes
Triumphantly processional in our pageantry
And goes within the beast
Tethered in the driveway

He’s gobsmacked as I instruct it to stir
Moving us toward greater destinations
He farts and spits
As it roars to action,
Then sniffs the air and kisses me
I’m not as great as my dog thinks I am

I open that barrier to the outside world
With just a twist of my wrist
And the familiar tinkle
My dog looks on in total awe

I must keep reminding myself
I’m not as great as my dog thinks I am

When I come home
There to greet me
Is my best buddy

Overwhelmed by my presence
He pees in delight
For a brand new day is not
Measured by cycles of sun and moon
But my presence after absence

There is no sight greater
In my dog’s eye than I….
Have to keep reminding myself
I am not as great as my dog thinks I am
.
